Keush ,Methode Champenoise is a product that marries extreme high elevation modern grape farming and un-grafted ancient varietals. The vineyards are planted on rich volcanic soil.
The grapes are sourced from Khachik village, Vayots Dzor province in Armenia,a few miles from the Areni Cave where winemaking equipment over 6000years old was recently discovered. The vineyards are un-grafted, 60- 100 years old. Located between 1500- 1750m above sea level.
These are some of the highest elevation vineyards in the world, and at 1750 m, the highest elevation vineyards in the Northern Hemisphere that produce méthode traditionnelle.
Made from two indigenous Armenian grape varietals both of which in their vineyards are from original ungrafted vines this is the creation of Vahe Keushguerian an Armenian born in Lebanon but who spent many years running a retail wine business in San Francisco before moving to Italy where he produced his own wines for more than a decade.He has now been in Armenia since 2006 and been instrumental in advising many of the new upcoming wineries including both Karas & Koor.
